We are seeking an outstanding scientist with experience in protein purification, biophysical characterisation of ligand/protein interactions and structural biology to join Curve Therapeutics (https://www.curvetx.com), an innovative, venture-backed start-up company based in Southampton, UK. The successful applicant will become part of a multidisciplinary team that is discovering and developing innovative theraepeutics for the treatment of cancer.
Curve is focused on the identification and development of next generation therapeutics using our proprietary functional screening platforms. We use a combination of cell biology, chemical biology and microfluidics to generate and screen cyclic peptide libraries that address challenging disease-modifying targets and use medicinal chemistry to develop leads for further development in the clinic.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or related discipline, and experience that includes protein expression and purification, biophysical characterisation of ligand-protein interactions and structural biology.
The candidate will be employed as a senior scientist by Curve Therapeutics at the company’s laboratories in Southampton. Curve is a spin-out from the laboratory of Professor Ali Tavassoli, who has pioneered innovative approaches to targeting protein-protein interactions. The platform has been used to identify and report a number of cell-active, first in class inhibitors (including Miranda et al., 2013, J. Am. Chem. Soc. 135, 10418, Leitch et al., 2018, Chem. Sci. 9, 5957 and Tavassoli, 2017, Curr. Opin. Chem. Biol. 38, 30). The applicant will use state of the art facilities and approaches to identify and develop molecules that target some of the most challenging disease-modifying therapeutic targets.

The ideal candidate will have:
- a PhD, or equivalent experience, in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline. Those who have submitted their PhD thesis and are awaiting their viva will be considered.
- experience of characterising ligand-protein interactions using biophysical techiques.
- experience with recombinant protein expression and purification, molecular cloning.
- Experience of structural biology techniques such as x-ray crystallography and protein NMR
- interest in working in a multidisciplinary, dynamic environment.
- experience of working well in a team.
- excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
